The 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup was held in Australia and New Zealand. The United States Women's National Team (USWNT) was one of the favorites to win the tournament, but unfortunately, they were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Sweden in a dramatic penalty shootout.

In their opening game of Group E, the USWNT defeated debutants Vietnam 3-0 with Sophia Smith scoring two first-half goals before co-captain Lindsey Horan bagged the third. The Americans were held to a 1-1 draw by the Netherlands, before failing to score in a 0-0 encounter with Portugal. Despite a disappointing end to their group stage, the USWNT still progressed to the Round of 16, where they faced Sweden.

The USWNT has been a dominant force in women's soccer for many years, and their success has helped build the sport in America. The team has won the World Cup four times, more than any other country in the tournament's history. They won their first title in 1991 and then again in 1999, 2015, and 2019 .

The 2023 Women's World Cup was a great opportunity for the USWNT to showcase their talent and continue building women's soccer in America. Although they did not achieve their goal of winning the tournament, the USWNT remains a formidable team and a source of inspiration for young girls and women who aspire to play soccer at the highest level.
